Rajinikanth’s 'Coolie' to Stream on OTT 8 Weeks After Theatrical Release: Report

Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming action drama Coolie is all set to hit theatres on August 14, 2025, clashing with War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. Ahead of its big-screen debut, the film has reportedly locked its OTT rights and will stream on Amazon Prime Video just eight weeks post-release.

According to multiple reports and social media speculation, Coolie will premiere on Amazon Prime Video approximately eight weeks after its theatrical release. The film is also expected to receive an IMAX release in select locations, adding to its visual spectacle.

Speaking about her role in Coolie, Shruti Haasan—who plays the character of Preethi—highlighted the emotional depth embedded in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s storytelling. “All of Lokesh’s films have action, high-octane moments, and an emotional core. Coolie shares that sentiment but with a much larger scale,” she said.

Plot Overview

According to early descriptions on Letterboxd, Coolie revolves around Deva, a once-feared gold smuggler who embarks on a mission to reclaim his lost status. The film promises a blend of high-energy action, nostalgic undertones, and gritty underworld drama as Deva reunites with his old mafia crew.

Star Cast and Production

Coolie is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. Along with Rajinikanth in the lead, the film features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, and Monisha Blessy. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will make a special cameo appearance as Dahaa.
